I had a five flame silver noodle salad at Sawatdee today. It was good.
Still busy at work, freelance, and home. Making progress, but there’s a lot to do.
I did take a bit of time to contribute a post to a state discussion list regarding Minnesota’s Personal Protection act.
My motorcycle rocks.
People are still dying in Iraq. The civilian body count is now somewhere between 2149 and 2615 – that’s more than died in the WTC. Yesterday, American troops were being shot at from a building top and responded by firing into a crowd of protestors, killing 13 or so. Today, another two, although this time the initial shots were reported to have come from in the crowd.
The shots being responded to were not reported to have hit anything.
Will Iraq end up being our own private Northern Ireland or Palestine?

Still among the living and trying to catch up.
Getting through last week was an exercise in pushing myself past my limits, but after everything is said and done, I made it through, got my motorcycle, and am left with a fair amount of catchup work.
Hopefully in the next day or two, I’ll have dug my way out enough to return to some semblance of a “normal” life. Until then, be well.
Btw, it looks like the new conceal/carry law has passed in Minnesota. No word yet on whether or not Ground Zero intends to allow weapons into the club.
Oh yeah, the new bike is Lucile or ‘lil blu lu and suits me perfectly. Woo! -
Ooch. Sickness Sucks.
I’ve gotten bugs before, but this one nailed me bad. Joy was trying to deal with this one last week – I had no idea.
My body felt like someone had beaten me from knees to neck with a lead pipe, my head was ready to split, heavy disorientation and no sense of balance, coughs, sneezes, and an inability to think.
That last one’s the one that gets you. When you can’t think, you don’t realize how messed up you are. For some reason I was insistent on staying at work until my coworkers talked to my manager and they told me to go home.
Still not at work today, but my fever is down to about 100 and I can almost walk in a straight line, so I figure I must be on the mend. I’m hoping that I am doing a lot better in time for the show tomorrow night.
Anyway, starting to pull myself back together.
On the good news front, dailyrotten.com seems to be alive again and an old friend who called out of the blue yesterday gave me a new one to check out : http://agonist.got.net/.
Well, lying in bed in a cold sweat doesn’t make for much interesting news, so that’s about it for today. -
Road Trip!
You know, I don’t know if I’ve ever stopped in Iowa before. Anyway, the plan is to head down to get my new bike on Saturday. *grin* -
I feel blind.
Venik has been reclassified, news feeds which hooked a lot of small independent reports are gone or gone static (aljazeerah.info, dailyrotten.com), A blog source is silent, possibly dead (raed).
There are still The Guardian and aljazeera, and my Yahoo! news feed, but somehow it feels like my focus has been narrowed to too few perspectives to get a reasonable gauge on what is going on.
Granted, there are articles which one can point at – individual events which either support or undermine our reasons for this war and our current actions there, but they don’t really give a clear view of what is going on anymore.
I know they found the bodies of some British soldiers who may have been executed, Former general Jay Garner is now in Baghdad, Britain supports having arms inspectors, but the US does not feel that their return is realistic, a couple more journalists are dead, some others are detained, some Iraqi protestors have been shot, some American protesters have been arrested, a lot of mass graves have been found, and the military has a fun little deck of “important enemy people” cards which is sure to be a marketing hit in the US.
Sounds like a lot of info, and tidbit by tidbit, the volume may be similar to what I had before, but the picture is no longer there in any reasonable detail.
*sigh*
I hate feeling blind, it makes it hard for me to know what to do and what to think.
Well, at least there is other shit worth reading (or so one of my coworkers claims – looks interesting enough).
*sigh* All I want is 48 hours of invulnerability, a teleporter, a large caliber weapon, and omniscience. Is that too much to ask?
…
In other news, it occurs to me that I may actually suffer from stage fright. I had to run the quarterly meeting at work today and noticed my neck pinching up (I’ve been fighting with some pinched nerve problems for a while although they’d receeded a bit for the last couple months).
Hrm. Not entirely convenient for a guitarist. Btw, shows coming up on both Thursday and Friday. -
Still here…
My folks didn’t end up visiting over Easter, but it ended up being a pretty busy weekend anyway. Thursday was Rubber Ball at Zero. Sadly, attendence was pretty light. Some years has seen over 1000 people, but we were sitting in the 600s at 1am when they let the 18+ crowd in.
Not too bad of a crowd though. The Front was dead and the Zero crowd was pretty well behaved. Saw a lot of people there who I haven’t seen in a while, but I was moving fast, so I didn’t really get a chance to talk much.
Anyway, ended up being a pretty late one by the time I got home, but fortunately, I had Friday off and took advantage of it by sleeping most of the day away. I like sleep, I don’t know why I avoid it so much.
I ended up taking Friday night off of Zero. I called in that I had an emergency to take care of. I think any reasonable person would agree that it was.
Saturday evening, made it down to Hard Times for some coffee with friends, which was pretty cool. We got a parking ticket. Ironic, I’ve been parking there for 8 years or so and never had a problem. This time, in someone elses car, ticketed. Wierd. I do need to get down to Hard Times more often, I forget how much I like it.
The guy that sells rings and stuff at fest and Half Time was down there. I can never remember his name, but he’s a friend of a friend.
Saturday night was kind of rainy and wet and had to be one of the slowest nights at Zero/the Front yet. The crowd at the Front was strange. There was a bridal party which is always interesting, and a lot of out of towners, so the 1 am bar time (because Minnesota is lame like that) didn’t go over great.
Got home moderately late but got a fair amount of sleep and had a lazy start to the day. I’m starting to like the concept of lazy sundays. And the modern date of Oestre to boot. (We celebrate the resurrection with bunnys and eggs on the first sunday after the first full moon after the vernal equinox which isn’t at all a pagan way of setting dates.)
Found out about the Easter lily thing recently. That’s kind of cool, especially ’cause you can plant them so they grow back each year.
Anyway, its going to be a bit of a lonley week this week, but I should take advantage of that to get lots of stuff done. Well, that and do band practice Tuesday, gaming Wednesday, the gig at the Lab on Thursday, and the gig in Shakopee on Friday. That and some of my freelance work.
Well, at least I won’t be bored. -
Today’s mythical character of note:
The tree of life, Yggdrasill, had its roots deep down in the underworld. On these roots, the dragon Nidhögg was feeding himself, while a deer was eating the leaves of the tree. There were other animals, too, finding their place of rest in this enormous tree at the center of the world; a mighty eagle was living in its top. However; between the dragon and the eagle, a little squirrel was running up and down all the time. Its name was Ratatosk, and it was disturbing the peace.
OR
Running along its trunk and branches was the squirrel Ratatosk (branch-borer) who incessantly bore the tales and comments of the dragon and the eagle to each other, inciting them both.
OR
An eagle and a hawk sit high in the branches of the tree while the squirrel Ratatosk runs up and down its trunk. Ratatosk carries messages and news from the great dragon Nithogg to the eagle and hawk. Thus the squirrel represents strife.
The question is, does the squirrel enjoy the drama his gossip precipitates, or is it simply his nature?

This is forwarded from the MRFfriends email list.
The following is from the Washington Post Style Invitational contest that asks readers to submit “instructions” for something (anything), but written in the style of a famous person.
The winning entry was The Hokey Pokey (as written by W. Shakespeare).
O proud left foot, that ventures quick within
Then soon upon a backward journey lithe.
Anon, once more the gesture, then begin:
Command sinistral pedestal to writhe.
Commence thou then the fervid Hokey-Poke,
A mad gyration, hips in wanton swirl.
To spin! A wilde release from Heavens yoke.
Blessed dervish! Surely canst go, girl.
The Hoke, the poke — banish now thy doubt
Verily, I say, ’tis what it’s all about.

Ok, I’m alive, just swamped.
I got back from Seattle last Thursday.
First of all, wow. I’ve already conveyed to my manager and owner that they need to open up a remote office in Seattle.
I normally hate business travel and it suffered from all the usual problems, but I was fortunate enough to have some advice on pubs to look up and went to Kells in Pike Place on Monday night which ended up being a cool traditional Irish pub. Lively social and political discussions between shots set to a backdrop of a musician playing melancholy Irish ballads. Home away from home.
Wednesday night was the Owl & Thistle which was a great place to eat, drink, and listen to music. I went down with coworkers and one of the other vendors, so I didn’t interact with the locals too much. Lots of sarcastic humor in the air, which was good too.
Oh yeah, we did some work and came home.
This last week has been pretty intensely busy. This, compounded with the fact that my home phone is more or less down and the DSL line is flaky at best, has prevented me from posting much.
I’ve been scrambling trying to get some work done for my freelance gig. This has resulted in not much sleep and lots of stress. Joy’s been pretty patient through the whole thing, although she’s got a lot going on with her trial week at work.
The formal this weekend was pretty cool, although we’ve deterimined that dance lessons would be a Good Thing(TM). I had a lot of fun, although it was somewhat marred by an unfortunate phone call on the way home.
[Note: text removed here]
Band practice went pretty well and helped me blow off some steam. We got some progress on our two new songs, but it’ll take some effort to have them ready for our gigs next Thursday and Friday.
Also, my parents are coming up to visit tomorrow and will be staying until Sunday. It’ll be nice to see them.
Oh yeah, tomorrow night is the Rubber Ball at Ground Zero. Big event, open late. I’m going to be tired on Friday. I hope nothing stressful happens ’cause I’ll be pretty low on reserves (actually, I already am).
Balance, grasshopper, you must achieve balance.
Various other things have been going on, but I’m going to skip most of it for now as I’m still more or less under the gun.
I want my new motorcycle.
