Soon, probably tonight, the world ends a new era. An era of unabashed Pax Americana where the world is “protected” by the American military.
A police force presiding over peoples and nations who have no say in our policy or leadership. How do are we supposed to justify that in light of our consitution and belief in democratic rule?
What if a people don’t WANT to live by our form of government or economy? Doesn’t the belief in government through consent of the governed suggest that it should be their choice?
Where are Paine, Jefferson, and Adams when we need them? (I know, I know, there aint anybody here but us. *sigh*). America, what have we done to you?

I’m sitting through a very long FTP download, so I may as well kill a few minutes.
It’s been an OK week so far. St. Patty’s was nice, but I did have too much to drink. Recently I’ve been cutting down on how much I take in and for whatever reason it wasn’t as much fun for me as it usually is. There were some other things going on too, but other things always do. Tim Malloys, Pipe and Drums, and Boiled In Lead were excellent as always!
Woke up yesterday feeling like utter hell. Apparently, the Guinness did not combine well with the sore throat I’d been fighting, so I called in sick for the day and ended up playing with DHTML rather than doing anything responsible with my semi-free time.
Still have the cough, but I made it into work. Got a call from the doctor (I’d gone in last Friday for some tests) and it was one of those good/bad things. No surprises on the stuff I’d gone to have checked up for, but when I was in there, I’d gotten a throat culture. They told me that it came back negative for Strep Throat, so I figured I was cool for the weekend.
Well, today it turns out that I do, in fact, have Strep throat. This is not good.
Had I known, I would have avoided being around so many people, but as it was, I bounced at Zero on Friday and Saturday, hung out with Joy on Saturday, Sunday, and a bit of Monday, was at work Monday, and talked with a ton of people Monday night.
Now I’ve got to let as many people as possible know that I may have been contagious. GRRR. Not cool. At least it is easy enough to treat.
Anyway, that’s been my week and the FTP is almost done, so ciao for now.

I decided to make the javascript hacks to hide the previous and next arrows when they’re not needed. We’ll see if they work once I have enough posts in.
Since the skin applies the same to all pages, they don’t work on the events page. I don’t really get why xanga applies the skins to those two pages, but not to other pages such as viewing a particular post or looking the guest book.
As long as I was doing that, I had some fun making snowfall on the pages. It got annoying after a while, so I put a control in the modules to turn it on and off.
Its tested in the newer browsers on PC. Still haven’t looked on a mac yet. With all the JS and CSS in the skin, the page is starting to get a little heavy at somewhere around 15k all told. -
I spent a little time playing with skins for the blog and more or less have the hang of it. It would be nice to have a bit more control over some of the elements and I couldn’t figure out a way to conditionally display the previous/next buttons without javascript hacks.
I kind of like how this one turned out, but we’ll have to see how it looks on mac.
